We purchased a Miele 4800 washing machine about 4 years ago, and while we've been happy with the performance of the machine when it works, we've been very disappointed with the quality of the electronics. Just after the machine went off warranty, the control panel blew, necessitating a $500 part plus $190 for diagnosis and installation. Our local dealer pressured Miele, and they gave us the part at a discount. Two years later, the same panel (they think) is malfunctioning and the cost of the part is $625 plus the $190 diagnosis and installation. We are done throwing good money after bad and have purchased a low-end front loader for the same cost as the repair, because if washing machines are meant to be disposable within 5 years of purchase, we are going cheap!

At the moment, I am in the process of replacing my Miele washing machine that I bought in 1983. It has lasted all these years. There has been a minor repair or two a couple of times. However, in the end it has earned its investment many times over in comparison to buying a new machine every six years. Plus, the laundry always comes out clean while being environmentally friendly. It uses less water and energy, even though it heats up the water itself when compared to standard US machines.

I am so sorry I purchase this washer. The clothes never smell clean and mold builds up the door constant. It is not worth the huge expense. I have to say Meile vacuum cleaners are great, but avoid the Meile washer and the dish washer.
