The W4842 is built like a tank. Materials such as real metal, sturdy plastics, real glass and rubber feature attractive finishes also feel pleasant to the touch. Closing the door is an effortless affair, and it shuts with a satisfying and reassuring 'thunk' not unlike closing the door of a German luxury car. This washer is well made, with attention to detail and an eye on precision, out of durable, premium materials.
I have a feeling this is the way a lot of things used to be constructed before planned obsolescence and the 'disposable lifestyle' took hold.
USING THE WASHER
The small but adequate LCD display, and large, plainly labelled buttons make for straightforward operation. Most cycles and their intended uses are self explanatory, but this is not an appliance you want to use without giving the owners manual at least a cursory thumb-through.

Can't be repaired, November 20, 2011 By ME Donohue (Bellevue, WA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Miele W4842 27 Touchtronic Super Large Capacity Front-Load Washer - White I LOVED my Miele wash machine. I purchased it in 2002 and enjoyed it immensely. But then tragedy struck! It broke a week ago. No, problem... I looked up a service repair place and had them come out to fix my favorite toy! Was told I should just replace the machine. Seems when the gear and drum need to be fixed, you just chuck the baby. I was outraged... I'd been told my machine would last for a good long time; with metal parts I wouldn't need to replace it for a good15-20 year, may-be longer.
Went to the local distributer of Miele products and the service rep was equally surprised by the mechanics diagnosis. Gave me the number of his service department... Spoke with the service rep and he said the same thing as the original repair guy. But he did give me a quote on the part about $1,400.00! Not including labor. So you, think long and hard. Do you want to purchase a machine that if it breaks can't be repaired at a reasonable price? I loved my machine while it worked... Read more
